Music of F: Coldplay, Metallica, and Flo all walked into a bar...

Welcome to the Music of F!

1. "Fix You" by Coldplay
True story: this recently became the most played song on my iTunes list. It used to be a different song, but somehow, that one was wiped out and now it says I've listened to it 3 times, which is a boldfaced lie. But for now, this beautiful piece of music is the number one most played track on Ye Old Music Playing Machine. As I'm typing and listening, I already regret not getting tickets for their show here in MN this summer. I think they look pretty amazing live, based on the videos I've seen. Next time.

2. Florence + the Machine.
Confession: I don't own any of these albums yet. I'm not sure why I hesitated on buying the first one, Lungs. And I'm pretty sure I'm in love with all the new songs I've heard from the sophomore release, Ceremonials, so I should just go and buy it already. I'm not sure which track I like better right now, "No Light, No Light" or "Shake it Out", but here's the video for the latter.

3. "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica
I wasn't much of a Metallica fan growing up, but the Black album (was that the official name?) with "Enter Sandman" was pretty sweet, as was the S&M album with the San Francisco Orchestra. But for this post, I'm going old school. I needed some rock and roll for my half marathon run list last year and AC/DC is sadly not on iTunes. But Metallica is and Boom! a happy music and running relationship was made. Somewhere around mile five I got into my groove and never looked back. This was a nice change to the pop tunes on my list. Listening to it while at my office desk doesn't have the same panache as it does when I'm running. Huh. I never noticed that until now.

How about you? What "F" music did I miss?

  1. You're the third writer I've seen rave about Florence. Such an authentic edge to her voice.

    1. She has such a powerful voice, but sometimes I feel like her sound is buried beneath instrumentals. I bet she'd be AMAZING at an acoustic set.

    1. I hesitate and I'm not sure why! I'm strongly leaning toward Ceremonials, but I'd really like to listen to some more from it, first. I guess that's what You Tube is for, right? ;)

  3. If old Metallica doesn't pump you up, I don't know what will!

    1. I knew, without any doubt, that if someone was going to give a virtual high-five to the Metallica tune, it would be the one and only Alex J. Cavanaugh. :) I also received some AC/DC albums, so this year's playlist is going to be AMAZING!

  4. 'Fade to Black' is another good Metallica, though it doesn't have quite the adrenaline kick of 'For Whom the Bell Tolls'.

  5. Love that Florence + The Machine song! And "Fix You" will definitely be on my novel's playlist if it's ever published. I wrote an entire chapter with that song on repeat once. :)

  6. Coldplay is one of the BEST concerts I have ever been to. It has a lot of energy and a lot of fun. The dropped big yellow balls from the ceiling during "Yellow" and we bounced them around the crowd. Toward the end of the concert they dropped thousands of colorful paper butterflies from the ceiling. They also gave everyone a CD at the door as they were leaving. The CD was of a bunch of their songs performed live. My friend and I had crappy seats too and at the middle of the concert a woman from the arena came and asked if we'd like to move closer. We ended up 3 rows from the stage. I think it was so they could fill all the seats by the stage, but it ended up being AWESOME. I love Coldplay.

  8. Yay for all of these bands! I'm a big fan of Yellow and Trouble by coldplay. For Metallica it's Until it Sleeps and for Flo it's Cosmic Love

  9. All such good stuff in F! Florence is AWESOME!!! Such great listening music...I have both of the albums, but so far I'm more partial to Ceremonials, but in a way of how you really can't pick a favorite child, but that you might relate more to one than another. :-) You won't be sorry if you buy...

Metallica makes several appearances on my running playlists...and I love that it goes on for 5 minutes or more! It really allows me to get in a zone.
